Critical Repairs
- Rust Damage: Window frames and burglar bars are rusting and must be replaced with aluminium. Several rooms still need new windows.
- Garage: The walls are unstable and need to be rebuilt with brick.
- Storage: Our shop storage containers are in poor condition and need major repairs or replacement.
- Kitchen: The walk-in freezer motor needs replacing.
- Exterior: The home’s exterior hasn’t been painted in 9 years and needs a fresh coat.
- Transport: Our Quantum has over 200,000 km and will need replacing soon, despite still running well.
New Projects
- Therapy Support: We need an Occupational Therapist and Speech Therapist for children with no access to therapy.
- Food Parcels: Funding is needed to provide monthly food parcels to families in Walmer Township.
- Youth Support: After age 18, children must leave Khaya. We want to start a safe space in the township for therapy, stimulation, and skills training.
Vital Services
- Nappies: Our monthly nappy bill exceeds R20,000.
- Water & Electricity: Despite using borehole water and solar power, costs are now over R50,000 per month. We actively encourage staff and residents to save wherever possible.
- Fuel: Travel for medical visits and collecting donations is essential. Fuel costs are high, and a partnership with a fuel provider would make a huge difference. We’re grateful for the free monthly tank we receive from our local Sasol.
